2025 Summer Surf Camp
We teamed up with Glenn Hening, Surf Rider Foundation Founder, in creating a summer camp curriculum journal structured to provide a fun and enriching setting for youth to build the self-confidence necessary to develop into true water-women and men. The journal covers oceanography, the environment, the history of surfing, and history of our shop, established 1962. The journal also integrates former World Surfing Champion Shaun Tomson’s book, “The Surfer’s Code” – 12 Simple Lessons for Riding Through Life!!
Our goal is to ensure a safe and educational time at the beach filled with ocean-related activities and the best surf camp experience for your children. We make sure to keep our instructor to camper ratio 1:3, these small groups allow us to provide more personal attention to each camper’s individual needs. Our staff of instructors chosen to lead these camps are among the best San Diego has to offer. Safety comes first with all instructors having CPR, First Aid, and Water Safety certifications by Water Safety Specialists, the premier surf instruction certification course in San Diego.
- All camps run from the week of June 9th – August 29th
- Drop-off begins 30 minutes before camp begins – Pick-up ends 30 minutes after camp ends
- For more information about our summer camps you can take a look at our blog post that covers the camps in depth!

Frequently Asked Questions:
What age groups are accepted at the San Diego Surf Camps?
We have campers of all different ages ranging from 5 to 16, but the typical summer camp will have ages ranging 7-13. We just ask that campers know how to swim prior to coming to camp.
Do participants need previous surfing experience to join the camp?
Not at all. This surfing camp San Diego program accepts total beginners and advanced surfers. Our experienced and knowledgeable instructors focus on building confidence through surf lesson progressions that suit each camper’s existing skill set.
What is included in the surf camp?
Camp fees cover use of surfboards & wetsuits, guided surf instruction, daily activities, daily snacks, and professional tips from certified surf instructors. By joining our Pacific Beach surf camp, you’ll have access to structured lessons, fun group sessions, and ocean safety protocols.
What should my child bring to the surf camp?
Campers just need to bring a towel, bathing suit, sunscreen, water, and a sun hat. Our surf camps prioritize fun and ocean safety, so come prepared for a thrilling surf experience in Pacific Beach!
Are the instructors certified?
Yes, our San Diego surf team holds CPR, First Aid, and Water Safety certifications. We prioritize safety above all else, ensuring each camper benefits from experienced and knowledgeable instructors throughout every surf camp session.
Is there a difference between morning, afternoon, and full-day camps?
The biggest difference between the morning and the afternoon sessions of camp is that usually there are more kids who sign up for the morning session. While the afternoon sessions usually provide a more individualized experience.
Is there a minimum number of participants required for the camp?
The minimum number of participants for us to run our Surf Camps is 3 campers. In the unlikely event that this happens we will ask if you can reschedule to a different week of camp. If this isn’t a possibility we can transfer the camper into taking private lessons of equal value to the camp they’ve signed up for. If that’s not possible we can issue a refund.
What does a typical day at surf camp look like?
The typical day of camp starts with warm up with stretches, followed by practicing pop-ups on land. Then campers head out for a surf, after an hour or so they’ll come in and take break with complimentary snacks & discuss our surfer’s journal curriculum. During the snack break campers may play a beach game or just hang out under the shade of our pop-up tent. After the snack break they’ll head back out and go surf until noon. From noon to 1pm is lunch break. After lunch campers will go surf again until they need a break, and then go back out and surf until 3:45 at which point they’ll come back to the shop for 4pm pick up.
Are there any special events at the end of the camp?
Yes! Each summer surf camp session wraps up with a friendly Surf Expression-Session, final wave-riding contests, and a pizza party! It’s a celebration full of fun for campers and parents alike.
